    Elaran believes that it may be tul-a-ya-ni > tolaen > tolen (cf. athelas instead of athaelas), an old rendering of the present tense in Sindarin. This suggests that the 3rd person singular is tolae. I subscribe to this idea and conclusion.

    So no, it should not be tolen, for that means "I am coming."

    Having said all this, I personally do not like this tol(a)e- ...-ed construction, and prefer -atha, as seen in my translation with boratha (cf. linnathon).

    Instead of reviewing Sid's and Quelyar's translations (although I should note that tolo is the imperative of tol-, "to come"), I will simply offer my translation:

    Sî law/ló-/ú-hevin i fuin boratha.

    "Now (in this hour) I do not believe that (any) darkness will endure."

    You can go to Tecendil and set the mode to either Sindarin or Beleriand, whichever you prefer, and then insert the translation in order to get the transcription to Tengwar. Note that the slash indicates personal choice, so choose law, ló- or ú-. Law is based on Q. lá, and its prefixal form was based on S. ú-.

    Hello! It seems, that it was supposed to be a Sindarin translation, but I, too, can not figure out why there is a -d-. Concerning the website, I recommend staying away from it, since it contains quite erroneous and obsolete translations.

    I would suggest either your Naeriel, "Sorrowful daughter," or Níniel, "Tear-maiden, lit. Tear-daughter," or, alternatively, Níriel with the same meaning.

    In Quenya, these are Nairiel/Nainiel and Níniel/Níriel, respectively.

    He/she probably lenited graw in Adan'raw, hence that apostrophe. And I would change some of those suggestions you gave, Gilruin.

    • Adanvrog > Adambrog, and Rhówistron > Rhówithron.

    My own translation suggestions would rather mean "Bear-man."

    • S. Brogadan; Q. Morcatan or Morcótan (cf. Ñoldóran), and Q. Ruxatan or Ruxótan (cf. ruxöalë).

    The "Shape-shifter" translations look good to me.

  • Translation help with a phrase for noble families.

    There is the collective suffix -ath, so you could say

    • Arnossath-in-Eledhrim, "Noble Families of the Elves;"

    • and in the case of Wood Elves, perhaps Arnossath-i-Dawarwaith or Arnossath-i-Laegrim, meaning "Noble Families of the Wood-folk" and "Noble Families of the Green-elves," respectively.

    Arnossath consists of ar(a)-, noss and -ath, and the hyphens are optional. This means that without the hyphens, the first example would be Arnossath in Eledhrim.

    Hello! You can do that with Tecendil and set the mode to either Sindarin or Beleriand. Then you write caran and it will give you the word in Tengwar. Both modes are valid, and you can pick the one you find more to your liking.

    If you mean in this forum on this website, then you can start a reply or conversation, and then go to "Formatting." If you instead mean your profile, then you can edit your profile and look for the word "Transcribe" for transcribing Tengwar.

  • Help translate a phrase

    First of all, welcome! I would immediately highly recommend joining the Vinyë Lambengolmor Discord server, where we have lots of experts on Tolkienian linguistics.

    Your first sentence seems to contain a typo, and verbs are generally not placed at the end of a sentence, unless it is poetry. So I would write this instead:

    • Essenya ná Ragnar. (Or you could adapt your name phonetically: Rannar.)

    That being said, your name could also be translated to Quenya, or you could take elements that are related to the meaning of your name and translate those. Let me know what you think!

    Regarding your request about help for translating the phrase, some things to consider and know:

    • There are no final long vowels (not including diphthongs) in Quenya, so it is simply marta.

    • The meaning "to happen" is from an early draft of Quenya (1910s), and it can not coexist with the later conception of the root, in this case. This means we need another verb for "to happen," which I will show in my own rendition of the sentence.

    These are my translation options:

    • Ilqua/Ilu xia/hia/xíta/híta indonen. "Everything happens by will."

    • Ilqua/Ilu xia/hia/xíta/híta ennenen/induinennen. "Everything happens by purpose."

    • Ilu xia/hia/xíta/híta Eru-indonen. "Everything happens by the will of God."
