    Paul Strack has written an article examining the Quenya situation. For Sindarin I don’t know a similar article, I’ll explain what I use.

    Personally I don’t really do anything on those days, I just keep obsessing about Tolkien all year long :) Also, there is a bit of a question whether one should just use the dates March 25th and September 22nd as is or if you’d need to convert them to our current calendar system somehow according to Appendix D (check out this simulation for example).

    For chatter like this, you might want to check out Vinyë Lambengolmor, a discord server about Elvish, I don’t think enough people visit this discussion section regularly to keep a light conversation going.

    By the way, Erkenbard has pointed out to me that the reduction ai → i before clusters is supported by alda + inga → aldinga, you could add that as well if you want.

    We haven’t set up a complete FAQ yet, but in this thread you can find some links for starting to learn Sindarin.

    Saying “thank you” in Sindarin is a bit of a sore topic, Tolkien didn’t leave us with an attested word for it and constructing a good neologism from the other information we have about the languages isn’t easy, but hannon le from the movies doesn’t hold up well. If you can’t type accents, people will usually understand you if you write long vowels as mellon niin. Also, hello mellon nín technically means “strip (heltha-), my friend!” 😉️

    The attested Quenya word for “yes” is ná with elaborations náce/nása/náto. For Sindarin, people have postulated *naw based on those Quenya words. As there are plenty of things that ya already does and your suggestion seems not based on any material from Tolkien, I’m going to reject it.

    Also, Adûnaic, the language you entered this gloss as, isn’t and Elvish language at all, it is the language of the Men of Númenor.

    Great-grandfather is indeed a word we need and using tar seems like a good idea to me, however I would usually assume that it is prefixed to haru as tar-haru. However I would like opinions from other experts before approving this word.

    I assume the last element of this compound is intended to be -weg “name suffix”. This suffix however doesn’t mean “name”, it is merely an ending commonly found in names that is derived from √weg/wē/ewe. I would just suggest eneth noss for “family name”, not everything needs to be a compound in Sindarin.

    Our only attested examples of this suffix for “my” are gûr → guren and lam → lammen. Those are both derived from a word anciently ending in e: gorē, lambē. It is unclear whether a word like kambā > cam with a different final vowel would produce camman or cammen. With Tolkien’s revision of verbal noun suffix-ste >> -sta, we can’t be sure what ancient vowel eneth would have, so I would stick to i eneth nín like attested i eneth lín “your name” in the Lord’s prayer.
