  • Need help naming a sword

@glaurin, yes I think a sword of iron would not be ideal!

  • Need help naming a sword

Hello Glaurin! Three names sprang to my mind when I saw your comment, however one was actually suggested by Ríon Gondremborion (!) - Gilgeleb/Gilgelebren and the other two are as follows:

Angil/Angel or Gilangren/Elangren, which both would translate as 'Iron Star/Star of Iron', however your sword is probably not going to made out of iron so this might not be the best name.

Elrod/Gilrod, which may be a better alternative to the above as 'raud' just means 'metal', therefore this name translates as 'Metal star'.

    Hope this helps!

  • Contribution “Silmesse - in starlight” by Elrandir

Hi! Sorry I only just noticed this comment, so please do not think me rude for not replying! Do not worry, take as long as you need! Also, although by now you probably already have, i hope you settle in well and enjoy your time there! Regards, Nimlothiel/Elrandir

  • Which mutation would this use?

No worries - thankyou for just taking the time to answer my question in the first place!

  • Which mutation would this use?

Thankyou very much for taking the time to answer, it is much appreciated! Your answer to definitely make sense using existing Tolkien material however I will maybe research more just to make sure that he didn’t change his mind or anything- as it wouldn’t be the first time!

  • Rule for creation of frequentative/iterative (Quenya)

Thankyou so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question - i had tried searching for a definition on Google however it had made little sense. Thanks for clearing it up!

  • Which mutation would this use?

Hi, sorry to bother you all again, only I have a title for a poem I have written (both of which are in Sindarin) and I just need a few things clearing up concerning types of mutation. I would like the title to translate as ‘the lay of life’ and I am unsure which mutation to use for life. Would it be ‘i ‘lîr guil’ or, as ‘glîr’ ends in an ‘r’ would it be ‘i ‘lîr chuil’. There are a few instances of similar phrases throughout my poem and I just want to make sure the mutations are accurate! For liquid mutation, is it only in the instances of prepositions ending in ‘r’ rather than words? And also, do words that end in an ‘n’ trigger nasal mutation when they aren’t prepositions or articles (an, in etc.), and do words that end with a ‘d’ that are not prepositions trigger hard mutations? Or for all of these, is it only prepositions/articles that will trigger these mutations while normal words, regardless of what letter they end in, only trigger lenition? Sorry again for any bother caused, and thankyou!

  • Rule for creation of frequentative/iterative (Quenya)

Hi! I don’t mean to bother anyone but as a younger studier of Sindarin/Quenya and as someone who is not a linguist, what on Amar is a frequentative/iterative? Thankyou for any help once again! It is much appreciated!

  • What is the difference between súlë and silmë?

@Ríon Gondremborion Thankyou so much! I’ve wondered for so long what the difference was, and if I was disingenuous whichever in the wrong way. Thankyou for clearing it up for me!

  • What is the difference between súlë and silmë?

Hi, following on from the wind topic, but in terms of Sindarin, is there a preferred word for wind? I.e. is ‘gwaew’ better than ‘sûl’ or vice versa? Sorry I realise this has very little to do with the previous questions it has just been bugging me for a while! Much appreciated!
