yallume
adverb. at that (far distant) time, at last
íre ilqa yéva nótina, hostainiéva, yallume
when all is counted, and all numbered at last
A relative conjunction appearing in the first draft of the Löa Yucainen poem in the phrase yallumë Eldalië enwa marnië endoressë lumincë “in times when the Eldalie dwelt yet a little while in Middle-earth” (CPT/1296). It is a combination of the relative pronoun ya and lúmë “time”.
Conceptual Development: In Demonstrative, Relative, and Correlative Stems (DRC) from 1948, ᴹQ. yallume meant “at (that) far distant time”, because in that document ᴹQ. ya indicated remoteness rather than being used as relative pronoun (PE23/96, 110). The word yallume also had a similar meaning in Fíriel’s Song of the 1930s, within the phrase ᴹQ. íre ilqa yéva nótina, hostainiéva, yallume “when all is counted, and all numbered at last” (LR/72).
Meanwhile, the temporal relative conjunctions in DRC was ᴹQ. †in or inan “(relative) at the time mentioned, at the same time” (PE23/109), a combination of the relative pronoun ᴹQ. i and ᴹQ. -n(an) “time”. This replaced ĭn, inde “when, rel[ative]” from drafts of DRC (PE23/110 note #121).
There was also ᴹQ. illume “at the time that” where the second element was ᴹQ. -llume “time” (PE23/97). In the Quenya Verbal System of the same period, ᴹQ. illume was listed among various words meaning “when, whenever” (PE22/121).
