tompollë

place name. Great Bear-dance

A place in Númenor where the Great Bear Dance (ruxöalë) took place (NM/335). Its meaning is unclear, but it might be an elaboration [ᴱQ.] tompa “drum” (QL/94), given that a similar root √TOM used “of resonant sounds” appeared in Tolkien’s later writings (PE17/138).
