The twentieth phrase (lines 24 and 26) of the first version of the Oilima Markirya poem (MC/221). The first word is the preposition ala “after”, followed by the nominative form of the noun fui “night” and the adjective oilimaite “night”.
Decomposition: Broken into its constituent elements, this phrase would be:
> ala fui-n oilimaite = “✱before night-(nominative) last”
Conceptual Development: This phrase also appeared in the fourth, fifth and sixth drafts, though the number of times it appeared varied (OM1d-f: PE16/62, 72, 74). It appeared twice in the final draft, on lines 24 and 26 (MC/221). In the fourth draft, ala was translated “before” rather than “after” (PE16/62, 68).
