Name Translation

Onodrim #4479

Hello! I am new to Parf Edhellen, though I am very excited to dive right in to it. To kick things off, I was wondering if someone could please help me with a translation. My first name is Lee-James, though everyone calls me LJ. I was wondering if I could have some assistance with translating my name in to Sindarin?

Thanks!

Mae govannen! Welcome aboard!

The name Lee, in English, means something like "meadow" or "wood clearing". James means "supplanter" or "holder of the heel".

So, in Sindarin, you would take "meadow" and suffix a name ending onto it to get Lee, as in Parthon/Parthion (masculine), Parthwen/Parthiel (feminine), or Parthu/Parphen (unisex).

For James, you could have Mabron/Nabron, Mabor/Nabor (masculine), or Mabril/Nabril (feminine). These all mean "seizer, supplanter". If you want the "heel-holder" meaning, you could try: Talnabron, Talmabron, Talmabor, Talnabor, Talmabril, Talnabril, Talmancor/Talmancon, or Talmadhril.

As always, I recommend a second opinion!

These are great Ambarkas. I would point out that ln should lead to ll. So I believe it would be Tallabron, Tallabor and -lm- could also be -lv-. I see two examples of -lm-. Elvellyn coll. “Elf-friends, Elf-lovers” is one example.

But love these names though!

Haha! Sorry, I completely spaced on the lm > lv! Thank you, Rínor!
