  • Sindarin name from Quenya word?

This is all really helpful, thanks!

  • Sindarin name from Quenya word?

I saw the Quenya word for ruby, serciril, and thought, hey, this could be my username on this site, so I was wondering what the Sindarin equivalent would be—matching the literal name meaning ("blood-glitter") or having a simpler meaning, like red gem or something.

  • Days of the Week Question

Thank you, this is very helpful!

  • Days of the Week Question

I got curious and searched up the names of the days of the week, and I saw that there was a name in Sindarin and a name in Quenya for each. This got me thinking a little, because it begs the question: would Sindarin be used because it is more common, or is Quenya used because they are (somewhat) important names?

Also a question about the week itself: I also saw that there was a word for a six-day week. Did the elves count the week by five days (lemnar), six days (enquië), or seven (otsola)? If they were counted by anything other than seven, which days were used?

I'm also new and didn't know which conversation I should put this in, so I guess it goes in General.

  • Various names involving beech trees

Thank you for helping with this! Now I know not to trust name generators with Quenya or Sindarin.

  • Various names involving beech trees

Ah, okay! So if I were to make a gender neutral name using feren or neldor (like what I tried to do with Ferenor but ultimately failed, I guess?), how would that work? What would the suffix of person, sister, brother or friend be for names in this context?

  • Various names involving beech trees

I thought feren was Quenya and neldor was Sindarin? Oh well.

So if those names are good for Sindarin, what would work for Quenya?

  • Various names involving beech trees

Ohhh, okay! Thanks for pointing that out. I probably should have checked that translation before I posted this. I got most of the names from fantasynamegenerators.com's Quenya and Sindarin name generators.

Also, these names are for a character that I have yet to fully develop, I just wanted their name to involve a beech tree in some way, shape or form.

  • Various names involving beech trees

If I use "feren" for beech tree, are these names correct?

    • Ferenor - Beech tree person
    • Ferendir - Friend of the beech tree
    • Ferendor - Brother of the beech tree
    • Ferenneth - Beech tree girl
    • Ferendis - Female beech tree
    • Ferenthel - Sister of beech tree
    • Ferenion - Son of the beech tree
    • Fereniel - Daughter of the beech tree

I've been trying to decide between them, then I realized they might not even be accurate...
