orost

oroth
noun. impetus, speed, haste, rash courage
amrost úr
sunrise
A noun appearing as G. oros or orost· “rising” in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s (GL/62), clear based on the early root ᴱ√ORO as suggested by Christopher Tolkien (LT1A/Kalormë; QL/70). Elsewhere in GL, orost was paired with G. orosaura “sunrise”, so it likely had that meaning as well (GL/62). The word orost also appeared unglossed in Early Noldorin Word-lists of the 1920s (PE13/151), but not thereafter.
