caur

place name. Kôr

The Noldorin equivalent of ᴹQ. Kôr appearing in The Etymologies from the 1930s, developing from the primitive form ᴹ✶kǭro (Ety/KOR, EtyAC/KOR).

Conceptual Development: In earlier narratives it appeared as G. Gwâr (LT2/291) or G. Côr (LB/21, SM/86). The second form also appeared in The Etymologies as a derivative of ᴹ✶koro before it was rejected and replaced by Caur (Ety/KOR, EtyAC/KOR).

caur

noun. action, doing, making; verb

A neologism coined by Elaran in 2018 on the Vinyë Lambengolmor Discord Server (VLDS) derived from √KAR “do, make”, comparable to S. caun “outcry” from √KAN “cry aloud”. I would use this word for a specific (single) action, as opposed to the gerund cared “action, ✱doing, making” for the general process of action or carth “deed” for a notable or deliberate action. When referring to grammar, caur can be used as a term for a verb.

cared

noun. action, action, *doing, making

An element in the word athragared “interaction” (PE17/14), also the gerund/infinitive of the verb car- “do, make” (PE17/68) and thus meaning “✱doing, making” as well. As such I would use this word for action as a general process, as opposed to a specific action for which I would use ᴺS. caur.

hûr

action, readiness for

(i chûr, o chûr, construct hur) (vigour, fiery spirit), pl. huir (i chuir) if there is a pl.

kôr

place name. Kôr

Name of the hill where Túna, the city of the Elves in Valinor, was located in Silmarillion drafts from the 1930s (SM/45, LR/222). In The Etymologies it was derived from the root ᴹ√KOR “round” (Ety/KOR).

Conceptual Development: In the earliest Lost Tales, ᴱQ. Kôr was the name of the city as well as the hill.
