Wife of Barahir and mother of Beren, translated “Manhearted” (S/155). Partrick Wynne suggested that her name may be a combination of emel “mother” and dîr¹ “man”, so literally meaning: “manly-mother” or “mother with manly courage” (VT48/17-18, note #14).
