Mae govannen mellon nin! For those far more versed in the name lore of Middle-Earth I was curious if the spelling of the name "Eranoth" could be translated safely from any form of elvish in the legendarium. It is from a video game mod where Eranoth is a Prince of Dol Amroth.
It is a simple fan project at the end of the day and I certainly don't withhold them to any scrutiny as they could just write this off as some form of Adûnaic but in my own gaming, particularly in the Lord of the Rings Online and other roleplaying games I do enjoy using the name myself and have a cursory fascination with the potential etymology for all my characters.
The closest thing to a translation in Sindarin I could contrive would be aran + ost which I would translate as "Fortress King* if my limited understanding betrays me not.
However, in Tolkien's work aran of course is never rendered eran (though the plural of aran I have seen as erain or erein). In my ignorance of Sindarin rules I am left to wonder if the ar(a) would be warped to er "one, single" or that my proposed translation simply does not hold up.
Such is my musing and I could just be being arbitrary but if anyone else could come up with a more learned translation for Eranoth, if any perchance exists at all, I would be most appreciative!
