Help with teaching my dog Sindarin!

dgou ps #3113

Can someone help me translate some casual phrases in Sindarin for just when I'm talking to him?

He already knows a fair few Quenya commands, but Sindarin is less formal, and I'm unsure of the syntax of more full sentences.

I'm looking for help with -

'I'm home/I have returned.'

'I missed you.'

'How was your day?'

'You are safe.'

'You are my best friend in the world.'

'Have a rest/Rest now.'

And, finally, 'Good boy!' 🙂

Can anyone help out?

I'm trying to figure out one new term but I can't quite get it right.

In Sindarin, how would I say 'what do you hear?'

I think it's 'man le [something]', but I don't think it's lasto, as that seems to be more 'listen'. There's a reconstruction on this site that gives lhassa-, but I'm not sure about it.

Any advice?

Since you are addressing the dog (I assume), I'd use the informal 2nd person pronoun here. And of course the pronoun should be suffixes to the verb. As for the verb itself, you can either use the somewhat debatable and very irregular lhae-, or the one you mentioned, lhassa-; both are neologisms btw. I am somewhat on the fence between the two.

Man lhaeg? / Man lhassog?

Thank you again Ellanto! He now knows 22 commands in Exillic Quenya, and 8 in Exillic Sindarin. We're both slowly building our vocabulary - but I like Quenya much better!
