Help naming a castle I'm designing: Elvish for Observatory?

Hi,

I'm designing a (modern-style) castle that I want to name in Elvish, I'm planning for it to gave an Observatory but can't find an Elvish translation so was thinking of something along the lines of Milbar Melentiriol which I think means Home of Skygazing but I'm not sure. Could anyone tell me if that is right? Or recommend something better. I want it sound more than using Minas and to sound good in both Elvish and when translated.

I assume you want a name in Sindarin, based on the elements you've chosen (though you are not using them correctly I'm afraid).

For "Home of Skygazing" I can offer these options:

• Bar Eldirad (can also mean "House of Stargazing")
• Bar Menellirad (less recommended)

Thanks, would you mind sharing how you got to those? What would you recommend in Quenya? I found the name Elentir meaning Star-Gazer so would it be Mar Elentir?

Bar Eldirad "House of Skygazing" is from bâr "house", and ell "sky" + tir- "to watch" in gerund form tirad.

The second possible interpretation I mentioned, "House of Stargazing", would be using êl "star" instead of ell "sky. However I should note that this works only assuming Eldirad is a late compoud; if it was an older compound/name, combining el + tirad would yield Ellirad.

I think the Quenya equivalents of this one would be Mar Helletirio "House of Skygazing" and Mar Elentirio "House of Stargazing".

Bar Menellirad "House of Heavengazing" is from menel "heavens" + tirad "gazing". In Quenya it would probably be Mar Meneltirio.

Wouldn't we rather see tir- > tired and tíra- > tírad? *Tirad seems to be a blend of the two.

I wouldn't recommend helle in late-concept Quenya.
