Could somebody please translate this linked Elvish message? It's a teaser for future content in a mobile game, and I found Elvish too hard to learn a few years ago.

Just in case you are curious and don't already know about LotR: Rise to War, it lets you pit different factions against each other across Third Age Middle Earth (although the devs thought nobody would notice that Beruthiel and Gil Galad are not Third Age, but whatever). There is no actual Elvish in the game, but it's fun (or was until the devs decided to make some really bad decisions after Christmas). At this point it is pay-to-win unless you started playing like four months ago (yep, that's how young this mobile game is, and they're already on their way to killing it).

So if you want, go ahead and try it. Just don't expect the devs to have been usuper-accurate about how long characters lived and who even ever existed (they invented several characters because they were too dumb to think of Tauriel or Azog or Bolg. They have Gil Galad potentially fighting Aragorn, and Gandalf the Grey wipes the floor with Saruman and whatnot. But like I said, they're on their way to killing it, anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem for too long. The art is pretty great though.

I see. Well, it seems to be a mix of English and Sindarin in Tengwar. Poorly written. Here is my interpretation. (Sindarin is bold.)

• Iaur = "old"
• A = "and"
• Garo = "have(!)" (imperative)

• Na = "to"
• Men = "us" (should be ven, due to preceding na)
• Esto = "name(!)" (imperative)

Quite an erroneous transliteration/translation of what I believe the intended message was:

"We possess them, because we are very many years old and we have passed a lot. We collected them for many years, shared them with everyone. People turn to us for help, because we named everything."

Is that image from the official LOTR: Rise to War Discord server? Because I can not find it anywhere else than in your message.

The "esto" imperative is interesting; in Latin, that very word is the imperative of "to be".

Another bit of text, though this one is in the game itself; it isn't of any importance, but I would like to know what it says; but since I don't know any Elvish, I can't even tell whether any of the characters that I can't distinguish might be one thing or another. Being from a screenshot, it's the best resolution I can get.

It is barely readable to me, in Beleriand mode, and most likely as with the previous attempt a transliteration of English mixed with Sindarin words. I would ignore it, unless you can ask a developer to give you the intended (Latin) alphabetical transliteration.

It says: "Far to the north the cold grinding ice covers the sea"

It is transcribed in the mode of Beleriand, and "ice" being written as "ice" suggests that one of the online transcribers was likely used. But then any of those would have turned "the" into "the", instead of "dhe", and surely none of them converts "ld" into "ld". So that suggests that the inscription has probably been manually edited by someone who's familiar with Tengwar.

The text comes from the borders of a page in what is supposed to be the Red Book of Westmarch; it's on all the outer edges of the pages, but upside down on the top and bottom edges, and backwards on the right-hand page's side. So yeah, they didn't bother to make it well lol: cdn.discordapp.com
