Source abbreviations

Calion #807

Where in the world is the page that lists all the source abbreviations (like "QL" or "KYAR") used in entries? I cannot find it for the life of me. It needs to be linked more prominently—from the Home page or the About page.

KYAR is not an abbreviation, it is a Primitive Quenderin root. And QL is Qenya Lexicon, published in Parma Eldalamberon #12, which contains Tolkien's earliest notes on what became Quenya (so the notes tend to be at odds with "actual" Quenya).

This website is sort of an amalgamation of various dictionaries, whose entries are added automatically and without their lists of abbreviations. For example Fauskanger's "Quettaparma Quenyallo" dictionary (whose entries are the main source of "QL" appearances on this website) does explain that "QL = Qenya Lexicon", but this is not found on the website, which instead points to "Quettaparma Quenyallo" itself.

Then I think there needs to be a page listing the abbreviations, or at least links to them. And as for KYAR, that's really confusing, as KYAR is in the exact same notation as QL. Perhaps this needs to be regularized.

Hi Calion and welcome to Parf Edhellen!

You are right, these things need to be regularized. It is in my backlog of things I need to work on. Currently, I am working on a major update to the service, which will remedy common issues reported by the community. I hope that once it is ready, people will feel encouraged to suggest corrections to the dictionary.

Thanks,

Aldaleon
