Translation into Sindarin

Selina Kyle #747

Has anyone ever translated Bilbo's poem, The Road Goes Ever On, into Sindarin?

Aldaleon #758

@Elaran, why not share your proposed translation with everyone here?

Elaran #759

Because it is a poem and I translated it in prose form, no rhyme or anything else. It may be an accurate translation but is not a beautiful one. And a longer text means a greater chance for its (even strictly "non-neo") elements to become obsolete with a new publication of Tolkien's notes, which is not at all ideal for a tattoo. Meanwhile there are no risks on our part with simply offering a Tengwar transcription, hence my suggestion.

Aldaleon #760

That is fair! Certainly from the context of a tattoo, I would agree that an English Tengwar transcription would be better.

I appreciate your advice and think it's a good idea, English Tengwar it is! I'm so excited, I don't have any tattoos but have thought about this one for 10 years haha. Finally going to take the plunge. It means a lot to me, and really feels like it captures the spirit of my insane traveling life. The plan is to get the first stanza and a) make sure I can handle a tattoo, b) make sure I like it enough to get the rest of it. I have greatly enjoyed this discussion though, and have learned a lot more than I knew before, so thank you for that.

The road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began Now far ahead the road has gone And I must follow if I can

This is more or less what I mean by "phonemic":
