Early Primitive Elvish

vṛkṛ

root. *fear

An unglossed root in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s with derivatives like ᴱQ. varka “fear, dread” and ᴱQ. varkima “dreadful” (QL/102). In the contemporaneous Gnomish Lexicon it had derivatives like G. barc “dread, terror” and G. brigol “afraid; fearful, timid” (GL/22, 24). Early Noldorin words ᴱN. barch “horror” and ᴱN. barcheb “horrible” from the 1920s were probably related (PE13/138). In later writings, fear words were derived from other roots such as √ÑGOR.
