utum

place name. Utum

The Danian name for Morgoth’s stronghold ᴹQ. Utumno, developed from the same primitive form ᴹ✶Utubnu (Ety/TUB). The mechanism whereby primitive [bn] became [m] is unclear, but Helge Fauskanger suggested that [bn] > [mn] > [m] (AL-Nandorin/Utum).
