Early Primitive Elvish

root. *to dry (food), preserve

The root ᴱ√TṚQṚ appeared unglossed in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s with derivatives ᴱQ. tarqa- “dry, preserve; pickle” and ᴱQ. tarqin(a) “salted, dried; salt meat” (QL/94). It also had a derivative in the contemporaneous Gnomish Lexicon: G. {tarb >> tarp >>} tarp or tarf “dry, stale” (GL/69). I think it is worth positing a Neo-Root ᴺ√TARKWA “to dry (food), preserve” to salvage some of these early words.
