Gnomish

tibli

noun. drizzle, sleet

A noun in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s glossed “drizzle, sleet” that Tolkien said was related to ᴱQ. tiq- (GL/70) but I suspect G. tibli was actually based on the early root ᴱ√TIPI which was a dialectical variant of ᴱ√TIQI with various rain-related derivatives (QL/92).

Derivations

  • ᴱ√TIPI “*spray”
