Beware, older languages below! The languages below were invented during Tolkien's earlier period and should be used with caution. Remember to never, ever mix words from different languages!

Gnomish

telt

noun. lid

A noun for “lid” in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s based on the early root ᴱ√tel- “cover in; close; finish” (GL/70).

Neo-Sindarin: The roots √TEL “close, complete” and √TELU “roof in” survive in Tolkien’s later writings, so I’d retain ᴺS. telt “lid” for purposes of Neo-Sindarin.

dodri

noun. falling

A word in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s glossed “falling”, a noun form of G. dod- “fall down, drop” (GL/30).
