Beware, older languages below! The languages below were invented during Tolkien's earlier period and should be used with caution. Remember to never, ever mix words from different languages!

silta

noun. sieve

A noun appearing as ᴱQ. silta “sieve” in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s based on the early root ᴱ√SḶTḶ (QL/84). In very light pencil Tolkien add (ṇ) after it, perhaps considering a change in the root.

Neo-Sindarin: I would retain this noun as ᴺQ. silta “sieve” based on a neo-root ᴺ√SILIT.

elte-

verb. to thrust in, drive [in]

A verb appearing as {elta- >>} eltė- in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s glossed “to thrust in” under the early root ᴱ√ELE “drive, push, thrust, send forth” (QL/35). The word eltémbe in the contemporaneous Qenya Phonology might be some inflected form of this verb (PE12/27 note #158). Tolkien also gave a number of inflected forms of this verb in the typescript version of the Early Qenya Grammar from the 1920s, such as mieltal [mi-elta-l] “we drive [plural]”, etc. (PE14/86).

io

noun. wine

A word appearing as {úle >> eo >>} io “wine” in Early Qenya Word-lists of the 1920s (PE16/141).

Conceptual Development: A possible precursor to this word is ᴱQ. ulme “a kind of wine” in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s, derived the early root ᴱ√ULU “pour” (QL/97).

miru

noun. wine

A word appearing as ᴱQ. miru “wine” in the Qenya Lexicon and Poetic and Mythological Words of Eldarissa of the 1910s as the basis for the name of the drink of the Valar: ᴱQ. miruvóre (QL/61; PME/61).

Neo-Quenya: In Tolkien’s later writing, the initial element of Q. miruvórë was derived from the Valarin word Val. mirub “wine”, but I think ᴺQ. miru “wine” can also be retained as an adaptation of that Valarin word, so that we can salvage early related words.
