masculine name. Chantecler, (lit.) Cox-comb

An otherwise unexplained name in the Qenya Lexicon and Poetic and Mythological Words of Eldarissa from the 1910s (QL/73; PME/73), a combination of pekte “plume” and poroke “barn fowl”. According to the editors (Gilson, Hostetter, Wynne, Smith), “Chanticleer” is the Old French name of the rooster in the fable of Reynard the Fox.
