ortalima

adjective. able to be raised

An adjective appearing as [ᴹQ.] ortalima “able to be raised” in the Quenya Verbal System (QVS) from 1948, based on the verb orta- “raise” (PE22/111). In that document, -(a)lima was used for the suffix “-able” within the class of weak or derived verbs.

Neo-Quenya: The variant -alima appears nowhere other than QVS, and in Tolkien’s later writings he used -ima “-able” for all classes of verbs (PE22/156). As such, I would update this word to ᴺQ. ortaima for purposes of Neo-Quenya.

ortare

noun. lifting up

A noun appearing as [ᴹQ.] ortare “lifting up” in the Quenya Verbal System (QVS) from 1948, the gerund of the verb orta- “raise” (PE22/110). In that document, -(á)re was used to form gerunds of causatives and a-verbs.

Neo-Quenya: Tolkien seems to have abandoned the notion of -re as a gerund suffix, though it is had to say for sure since -rë remained a popular suffix for abstract nouns. Nevertheless, for purposes of Neo-Quenya I would use the noun ᴺQ. ortië “lifting up, raising” as the gerund of orta- “raise”.
