nurru-

verb. murmur, grumble

nurru- vb. "murmur, grumble" (cf. "Qenya" núru-); participle nurrula in Markirya, changed to nurrua, perhaps a kind of verbal adjective of the same meaning (translated "mumbling" in MC:215)

nurru-

verb. to murmur, grumble, mumble

A verb glossed as “murmur, grumble” in notes associated with the Markirya poem from the 1960s (MC/223), which include its participle form {nurrula >>} nurrua “mumbling” (MC/222).

Conceptual Development: The version of Oilima Markirya from around 1930 instead had ᴱQ. ulmula “mumbling” (MC/214). Earlier words of similar form or meaning include ᴱQ. nuru- or nūru- “growl (of dogs), grumble, carp, etc.” under the early root ᴱ√NURU (QL/68) and ᴱQ. qiri- “murmur” derived from the early root ᴱ√QIRI (QL/78), both from the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s.
