A verb in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s glossed “swallow, gulp down” (GL/54), related to the noun G. glod “throat, gullet” (GL/40). Elsewhere Tolkien had the (deleted) verb G. glonta- “swallow, gulp, devour” (GL/40).
