guilin

masculine name. Guilin

Father of Gwindor (S/188). The meaning of this name is unclear, though David Salo suggested its final element might be lind “song” (GS/351).

Conceptual Development: In the earliest Lost Tales, his name was (rejected) G. Duliglin >> Duilin (LT2/203), perhaps meaning “Swallow” (LT2A/Duilin). In the Lays of Beleriand from the 1920s, his name was revised to ᴱN. Fuilin, and in the Silmarillion drafts from the 1930s revised again to N. Guilin (SM/125), which remained his name thereafter.
