Gnomish

gôbi

noun. large hound

A noun in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s for a “large hound”, appearing as gôbi under G. gab- “bark” (GL/36) but as {gôbi >>} gobi elsewhere in the lexicon (GL/40). It was probably derived from the early root ᴱ√YAPA “snarl” (QL/105), since initial y became g in Gnomish. It had a rejected variant G. hûbi “hound” = + gôbi (GL/49).
