Culúrien

golden-red

Culúrien another name of Laurelin; apparently derived from the stem KUL- "golden-red" (Silm; LR:365)

culúrien

proper name. *Golden Garland

Another name for Laurelin (S/38). The initial element is probably a derivative of √KUL “golden-red” (SA/cul), and the second element might be Q. riende “garland”, hence “✱Golden Garland”. Hat tip to Lokyt for suggesting the second element to me.

Conceptual Development: The name first appeared as ᴹQ. Kulúrien in Silmarillion drafts from the 1930s (LR/210).
