A word in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s” with variants codorn and codron, a combination of G. cod “nut” and G. orn “tree”, referring to both “walnut” and “chestnut” (GL/26, 52, 63), more specifically to the breed of trees. A more exact term for “walnut [tree]” is G. Codorn (an) Ivon “cordon of Yavanna”, and a more exact term for “chestnut [tree]” is G. Codorn (an) Ormon “cordon of Orome”, also appearing as inverted ivogodron and ormagodron respectively. The nuts themselves were G. ivangod (or ivongod) “walnut” (GL/52) and G. ormagod “(Spanish) chestnut” (GL/63), along with a general term {cod·Vanion >>} G. cod·walion applicable to both, more literally “✱nut of the Gods” (GL/26).
