abont

adverb. back; backwards

The word G. abont “back, backwards” appeared in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s as the equivalent of G. bont (GL/17). Bont in turn was an “atonic development”, presumably the result of abont when unstressed (GL/23). Both were based on G. pont “the back, reverse or far side” (GL/64).
