Litany of Loreto

Tolkien’s Translation of the Litany of Loreto, composed in the 1950s and published in Vinyar Tengwar #44 in part two of article “Words of Joy”. No translation was given by Tolkien, the translation provided here is a common modern English version. In the normal version of the prayer “pray for us” (anca atarme) is repeated after the last four lines, but Tolkien included it only once. Also, the last occurrence of “have mercy on us” (órava (o)messe) was abbreviated to o.o. but is given here in its full form.
