Niall Scott #2537

Hello, I'm new here. My girlfriend really loves lord of the rings and, for her birthday, I wanted to make her an engraved ring with the phrase "the most beautiful" in Quenya but I'm not familiar the language.

How do you write it in Tengwar?

Thank you

In Quenya, the superlative is usually expressed with the prefix an- (sometimes ana-). The adjective "most beautiful" would be expressed as something like this: Anavanima.

However, there exists another prefix which has a similar usage, but expresses an even greater sense of "most beautiful" (in this case). That would be ar- (sometimes ari-). Rather than calling something/someone the most beautiful, it would instead mean something like "the most beautiful of all." If that's the sense you're going for, then I would go with the word Arivanima for the ring.

As for what that would look like in Tengwar, I suggest you visit a website called Tecendil.com, where you can type certain words or phrases to see their Tengwar equivalents. The mode you'll want is Quenya, which can be accessed by clicking on the "Mode" indicator to the right of the bar in which you type.

I remember reading that Vanimelda was the highest compliment of beauty. It has many meanings.

In Quenya, the superlative is usually expressed with the prefix an- (sometimes ana-)

Tolkien's latest writings on the intensive prefix rather settle on am(a)- (am-b- > anv- in later formations, PE17:92), and OP's request includes the definite article, so I'd recommend either i ambanima i ambanima (ancient) or i anvanima i anvanima (recent) for the ring, with the usual disclaimer that a transcription of the original English is almost always safer for permanent inscriptions.
