A word for "dancer"?

Akemi Saoshi #1130

Hi there,

I have found words for "dance" as a noun and verb, but not for the actual person doing the action, that is, a dancer. What would I use for this?

I would say:

Quenya: liltar
Sindarin: lilthor

Thanks! I am trying to put together the title "Bladedancer" for my LotRO character. Would you suggest "Paltlilthor"?

I would firstly avoid using "palt" because it is a neologism that is based on the earliest notes of Tolkien rather than the canon-period works. But even if we could use it, "...ltl..." would not have worked.

Sindarin words are governed by over a hundred historical phonetic development rules, and these basically make it impossible to get proper results by simply combining words from a dictionary. In this case either the medial consonant would disappear or the lost final vowel of the word would be restored. Neither approach is explained in detail by Tolkien, so it would have been better to look for an alternative even if everything else was fine.

I would instead go for *maeg (cf. Q. maica) if a standalone word for "blade" is a must. Otherwise the regular word megil "sword, sword blade" would be far more preferable, since it appears quite a few times in the canon-period works of Tolkien. Both options can actually yield Meglilthor, so that is what I would suggest.
