I'm trying to figure out the best way to turn "City of Magic" into elvish, that sounds the best. It's going to be the name of the city, and prefer it to be in Sindarin. I'm not sure if I'm translating properly, so any help is appreciated! :D Thanks~
"City of Magic" into elvish(Sindarin)
I would probably say something like:
• 'Caras Aglar' (City of Radiance)
• 'Caras Lim' (Sparkling City)
• 'Caras Galad' (City of Light; might be too similar to Caras Galadhon for your taste)
• 'Caras Silivros' (City of the Sparkling Rain; I love this name!!)
• 'Caras Tinniath [my own neologism]' (City of Sparks)
• 'Caras Tin' (same as above)
• 'Caras Eru' (City of God/Godliness)
or even, if you want to be a bit riské, • 'Caras Míriel' (City That Shines Like a Jewel)
Unfortunately, Tolkien gave a lot of words for bad magic and not a lot for good magic, though a few evil magic ones might include:
• 'Caras Guldur' (a little too close to Dol Guldur)
• 'Caras Morgul' (a little too close to Minas Morgul)
• 'Caras-nu-dhúath' (The City Under Shadow)
Sorry to steal this one from you, Nimlothiel. What you you think?
Saeya, I hope that I have been of help.
No, that’s fine as I was a little stuck thinking of a word for nice magic so I am glad you came up with something!
You could have ‘Caras Maeras’ meaning ‘City of Goodness’, that may tie in in good ‘Harry Potter’-like magic.
