Arrogant (Quenya)

Tom Bombadil #505

I'm searching for this word, but I have no clue how to create it. Any ideas?

PS. A word for the opposite, modest, would be useful too.

PPS. Thanks for every help.

The first idea that comes to my mind is to combine an adjective like * indoitë ('having some state of mind'), astalda ('valiant') or nírítë ('forceful') with a prefixed element conveying either excess or pejorativity, such as uþ(u)- (PE17/151).

The Qenya item turqima "haughty" [www.elfdict.com] seems to have been abandoned by Tolkien.

As Sami says, it's not easy to combine the meanings "haughty, proud" and "aggressive" in one word, especially as "haughty" in a pejorative sense seems to be absent from the later vocabulary. Actually, that's not entirely true, because we have the wonderful Sindarin word tarlang "stiff-necked, haughty", which can be converted into NeoQuenya, but that in itself is a compound and a metaphor, so to work that into yet another compound would be too much.

niríte "forceful" is promising, or perhaps *nirula "pushy"

Sami Paldanius #510

At Eldamo one finds the close-call neologism * immoquanta "full of him/herself, egotistic, narcissistic" — compare e.g. Finnish (yli+)itse+varma "(overly) self-confident".

Tamas Ferencz #511

That one was actually coined by me :)

Sami Paldanius #512

Given the two meanings of #z-j-d [is.gd], I suspect Hebrew-speakers or -lovers might feel tempted to use wel(va) [eldamo.org], either alone or as a compound element.
