Translation for a tattoo.

Mae govannen!

Im new to this wonderful community and just starting to explore Tolkien's Elvish languages. I'm working on a tattoo idea and would really appreciate help from experienced members here.

To be honest, I'm a bit nervous about trying to translate something myself, especially because the words I want to use are meaningful and permanent. I want to make sure they are grammatically correct, faithful to Tolkien’s vision, and poetically expressed.

Could someone please help me translate the following two quotes into Quenya and Sindarin? A poetic or grammatically refined version would be amazing — it doesn’t have to be literal, just beautiful and true in meaning.

  1. "He who breaks a thing to find out what it is, has left the path of wisdom."

  2. "A light from the shadows shall spring"

For these I would suggest doing the English with Tengwar.

Mae govannen, Celebrinor!

Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.

Would you happen to know which website or tool is best for accurately transcribing any language into Tengwar? There seem to be several options out there, but I’d love to use one that is known to be reliable and faithful to Tolkien’s writing system, especially since this will be for a tattoo.

Thanks again for your time and help!

You can use Tecendil! It's an excellent resource for this kind of thing.

  1. He who breaks a thing to find out what it is, has left the path of wisdom.
  2. A light from the shadows shall spring.
