Translation Help for a Tattoo

Robert Moroney III #211

Hello,

I have a tattoo idea I am looking into and I need help translating one of the sentences into Quenya. As I said, this is for a tattoo so I am in need of the best, most accurate translation as possible since it would be on my body forever.

The below paragraph is a prayer I have written and I am looking to have the 4th line translated. I have included the full prayer so you can see the meaning and feeling I am trying to express.

If the translation changes the meaning to make it more colloquial, that is okay. I know each language has a certain way of saying phrases that doesn’t have a direct translation into English; I am just looking for the translation to express the meaning I am trying to portray.

If anyone can provide, I have open arms to your assistance.

Thanks again

Lord,
1st- Help me to find the strength I need everyday.
2nd- Allow me to see past my earthly wants and needs.
3rd- I know I do wrong, and I ask for Your forgiveness.
4th- Without You I feel empty, filled with regret.
5th- In search of the path I have lost.
6th- I throw my worries at you, Lord.
7th- Please know that I try, though I fail.
8th- In Jesus name I pray.
Amen.

P.S. Once it’s translated, if anyone can help me pronounce the sentence, that would be great haha I would hate to have a language tattooed on myself that I couldn’t actually speak

Hi Robert!

Welcome to Parf Edhellen! I discussed this with the linguists in a Tolkien language channel, and they proposed the following translation:

Ú lyeo nánye cumna, quanta naireo
Ú lyeo nánye cumna, quanta naireo
“I am empty without you, filled with sorrow”

Aldaleon,

Thanks a lot for helping, this is great, exactly what I was looking for.

When it comes to the speech, since I am not familiar with the accents for vowels etc What would be the best way to understand how to say this? For example: is it “oo lay-o” or “oo lie-o” or some other combination?

Is there a site that has pronunciations of words?

Do you have the Lord of the Rings books? There is a pronunciation guide in the appendix. If you do not have the books, you can read Helge Fauskanger's guide online.
